Non-Safety-Related Voluntary Recall of Certain Lots of Sanofi Pasteur H1N1 Pediatric (0.25 mL, for 6-35 month olds) Vaccine in Pre-Filled Syringes
Sanofi Pasteur has notified the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about a voluntary recall on their H1N1 pediatric vaccine due to reduced potency after delivery. There are no safety concerns with any of the identified vaccine and infants and children who received the vaccine do not need to be revaccinated. All children who are supposed to receive a second dose should still make an appointment to receive it 30 days after the first shot, if and when the vaccine is available. It is OK if your child receives the second dose after 30 days.
Austin Regional Clinic did receive some of the Sanofi Pasteur H1N1 pediatric vaccine and will return it as specified by Sanofi Pasteur. This may effect currently scheduled appointments, until we receive another shipment of H1N1 pediatric vaccine. Please continue to monitor the ARC web site for updates and the flu clinic schedule for available vaccines at our clinics.
You will receive a call from your doctor’s office if we have to cancel appointments for the below pediatric patients:
• Children between 6 months to 24 months
• Children between 2 years and 48 months with chronic health conditions
ARC encourages all healthy children ages 2 years to 18 years to receive H1N1 FluMist vaccine.
This recall does not effect either the .5ml doses of H1N1 vaccine for children and adults 3 years old and over, or any of the H1N1 FluMist for children or adults. This also does not effect any of the seasonal flu vaccine. You can read more about the recall at the CDC recall Question and Answer page.
ARC continues to offer clinics and/or appointments for both H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccine at most locations. Please check our flu clinic schedule before you call for an appointment. Please see the H1N1 priority chart to view a more detailed description of the priority groups that are now eligible to receive H1N1 vaccine at ARC. ARC continues to order the maximum allowed vaccine by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
